Year: 2006 Daryl Zalan lived right down the hall from me freshman year at Stanford. The night I went into his room to listen to this song he said he just recorded, I was amazed. First of all, it didn’t sound like his voice, and secondly, it was all…pretty good, and he did it all himself. Daryl, hope you make it big, man.
Origin/Composer: John Siegler and John Loeffler Year: 1999 Seriously, who can forget this? Stanford’s Fleet Street A Cappella had an awesome medley of TV cartoon songs, and included this as one of them. It was completely hilarious. When they showed Ash running forward with a another member as Pikachu, the other members slowly back up to simulate travelling distances. It was pretty amazing.
Origin/Composer: Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys) Year: 1966 Every so often, a song just “works.”
Year: 2002 It’s really too bad Phantom Planet is connected to the OC ever since the producers chose “California” as the show’s theme song, since they really are an amazing band.
Year: 1998 I finally figured out the name of this song about 2 months ago when my roommate played it over his iPod speakers. I was next door, but I ran back and asked him what it was named. It is a romanticized tale of an old couple who took a long road trip, but was found dead two weeks later far off course.
Origin/Composer: Tupac, with a sample of Bruce Hornsby Year: 1998 Long Live Tupac. Why can’t more rap songs be like this one.
Year: 2003 Another song I re-discovered after listening to an a cappella version of it.
Year: 2006 K.Flay (Kristine Flaherty) is a rapper from Stanford and a Resident Writing Tutor (RWT) for Otero.
Year: 2006 A Stanford-based band, pretty unknown. One of their better songs.
Year: 1997 It’s Coolio! I just heard this for the first time 3 days ago.
